Buenos Dias!
All is well in the Esperanza Barrio: the work is progressing, the sun is shining, and the Lord still works in mysterious ways that are awesome.
I'm trying to even remember what happened this week.
Jesus and Isabel are doing great, Jesus in particular. He picks up on everything we teach so quickly and then always wants more. Isabel was sick this Sunday, so she wasn't able to come to church, but Jesus came and all the lessona and talks were about temples and the imortance of family history. And of course, we hadn't taught him what a temple is and it's role in the Plan of Salvation so yesterday we spent almost two hours with him as he asked question after question. None of it was bad, they were all very logical questions to have after listening to all the lessons and talks. It was interesting though because usually we teach the plan of Salvation very simply and broadly and we don't usually cover every single point of doctrine becasue it's a bit overwhelming, but with Jesus we taught it signifigantly more in depth than usual and with every answer and every doctrine, he was like "yeah, that actually makes sense." Isabel is also doing very well, we've started to have a few lessons every week wioth just jesus or with just Isabel adn then a few together because they're learning at different paces right now, but they're both progressing, both doing super well.
Gabby is woman we found last week and started teaching this week. Last Thursday or Friday during study time, I remembered one of the emails Jenson wrote on his missionwhen he talked about praying specifically and praying to find specific people. So, that morning, in one of the many prayers that happen every mornign in the life of a missionary, I prayed specifically to find a family of four with two priesthood holders that day. We left the house, the day was pretty normal, it was all good, but in the afternnon, we went looking for a reference we had been given in an area we don't usually contact too much in and the person wasn't there. But, we have a thig our mission president likes to call "Law of Proximity" which means that you are where you are for a reason and someone nearby is that reason. Both Hermana Rubio and I felt impressed to knock on the doorto a house a ittle bit down the street, and a we approached we realized the door was actualy open and it was just the screen door and we could see kids inside playing, wchih is awesoem becasue automatically, you kow someone is home and they can't pretend to not be home because you can see them. And so we knocked on the door, and Gabby opened the window next to the door, took one look at us, and went "Come on in!" We had an awesome lesson about prayer, and set a time this week we could come back and teach a little bit more. as we left the house, I realized that the Lord had answered my prayer, just not in the way I was expecting, which is usually how it happend. Gabby is divorced, but has three kids, and two of them are six year old twin boys. Two future preisthood holders. All the lessons this week were super awesome and she ended up telling us on saturday that the day we came, she had prayed for God to send someone to help her learn more about Him, and that she had been in the middle of cooking dinner when we knocked on the door, but that she had the feeling she needed to drop everything to listen to us that day. She's progressign really well too and her kids are so awesome!
Then we repeated this experience this week again, because another Elder in our district was talking to Hermana Rubio and I had only told her very briefly about the expereince with Gabby, so she had forgotten all about it, and gave her the same idea. So one morning this wek, after a day where we literally only found people to talkto who were vaguely mentally unstable, she prayed to find a family of four and lo and behold, the first family we found was a fmaily of four who were super receptive and are also awesome. their names are Carla nd Ezequiel, and they have two kids too. I guess the lesson this week that the Lord was rying to teach us is that we need to be signifigantly more specific when we pray and avoid being outine and rote in our prayers.
I love watching the Lord work.
Con mi amor eterno,
Hermana Rawlings
