Hey All!
Some of you have asked how is my comanion, the culture, and
the food here and I haven't really answered those, so here goes.
My comanion is awesome. I will send you one of the only
photos I have of just us but its little goofy whcih is proabbly pretty accurate
becasue she's super bubbly and funny. She's honestly super awesome.
The culture her in Huatabampo is uh, Mexican. Lol. No, I
mean it's obviously a pueblo in Mexico so there's that, but it's quiet here.
People say its a big city and its a biggish coty for our mission, but it has a
small twon feel. MOSlty because the people born here, stay here, which is cool
but a little sad becuse they can't get a good education here, and school here
isn't really free, so three are a lot of pople who don't finsh high school, and
a lot of adults who don't know how to read. Also a lot of the poorer kids here
get to be about 10 or 11 and sometimes still don't know how to read becsue
their parents don't put emphasis on their education. More than anythign, that
what makes me sad here, becasue for me, reding has been such an essential part
of my life and who I am and these kids have so much curioristy abotu the world,
but they don't know how to read, so they can't go look up books at the library
about crocodiles or the planets or sharks.
The food I don't mention a lot becsue I still really
struggle with it. I can eat it and I'll eat it when I have too, but I have to
really force myself still to eat some of the things. There's some good food
here, like posoli and tortillas de harina, but yeah, that's still a struggle
and it's fine.
Anyway, moving on. HUATABAMPO LETS GOOOO! I really love
Huatabampo. This week in particular, we've been teaching a young woman named
Arriana. She's a friend of a member, and although he's sent her missioanries a
few times, she's only ever hada first visit with them because of her work
schedule. Well, at the new job she has, she has an hour break at 1 and she has
made thsi tiem and space in her life, the time to talk to the misisonaries. She
really is awesome. We taught her the first vision this past week, and the
spirit was so stong. Afterward, s we asked her what she felt in an efoort to
help her recognize the Holy Ghost, she looked at us nd said, I don't know if
everything is true, but that definitely was. I have a lot of hope for her
and a lot of joy when I thnk of what the gospel holds. How amazign it is that
Our Heavenly Fatherloves us so much that he sends a member of the Godhead to
testify to us and comfort us when we are in need. I've been reading a lot in
John 14 this past week, and what is awesoem is that Jesus Chrit tells us that
if we recieve the Holy Ghost, that the Father and the Son will come unto us to
dwell with us and I've been thinkign a lot about that promise and I absolutely
cannot think of a more megnificent promise than to recieve the presence of
Christ and His father.
I'm sorry I can't write much more tooday, But I'm sendign
you all my love and my prayers from Sonora! Stay safe and don't do dumb things!
Con mi amor eterno,
Hermana Rawlings
