We could have used an ark

Welcome to Sonora (aka the Desert) where it doens't rain. Becasue of this the there's not an infrastructure of drains in the streets or places for the run off water to go, therefore when a tropical storm hits, such as this past week, you feel a little bit like you're living in the time of Noah.  It was absolutely crazy!! We were tryign to go out a work but there were streets we were riding down where the water was reaching up to the middle of the bike tires. And we were sooaaaaaked. Just soaked to the bones, despite rain boots and jackets and whatever other protection we were trying to use. In fact, when we were goign to the memeber's house to eat,I had on my rain boots but they had been filling up with water because the water was so deep our feet would go under while pedaling. When we got there, I took them off a turned them upside down and it was like in the movies, where an unbelieavble amount of water come rushing out. Hahaha. It was all good in the end, althou...

Crazy and good week

So this week was crazy. Absolutely crazy. But a good kind of crazy. We were absolutely priviledged to witness the Baptism of Marina this Saturday. I think I mentioned a few weeks back that we had an investigador who is indiginoues from Chihuahua and is currently learning Spanish? This is Marina. WE've had the priviledge (and prehaps the challange) of teachign her these past three weeks and man, it has been interesting as we've had to simplify and repeat lessons and find the best way to communicate with her. And it definitely felt like I was teaching a lamanite because she had no idea who Jesus Christ was and we were taking a lot of inspiration from how the Sons os Mosiah taught King Lemuel and his father. But she has such a sweet spirit and it was so fun to watch hwen she understood and the light that would come into her eyes. Because of the challenges in comunication, I was slightly worried if she would be able to answer the baptismal questions and express her t...

Miracles right and left

Hi Everyone! This week we were priviledged to see so many miracles. So many I can't tell them all, but the biggest miracle of all was the baptism of the Valenzuela Family!  This past Sunday, President Myers and Hermana Myers came with us to meet the family and so President could do the baptismal interview, and while they were with us, President Myers gave them two amzing promises. The first was that if Jesus read the Book of Mormon, he would learn how to read and write and the second promise was that before his baptismal, Jesus would have use of his hand again. Several tendons got cut in an accident with a machete as of six or so months and because of the severe damage, it was unusable. Now, I use the word was because when we visited them onTuesday, Hno Jesus greeted us with a gigantic smile and and said, "Look!" and then moved his fingers. By the time he was baptized, he was able to (a little bit gingerly) shake people's hands! And every single day it ge...

Repentance changes lives

Hi Everyone! Huatabampo is still as awesome as ever, but I'v been really feeling the heat this past week. Literally. I have no idea what temperature it actualyl is but the answer is hot. Very hot. I've had to really keep track of how much water I'm drinking because if not, it's so easy to get dehydrated and sick and if you're sick you can't work very effectively and I've found it harder to feel the Spirit when my body doesn't feel well, which is just proof the the Word of Wisdom is very true - when our bodies feel well we can be guided by the spirit much more easily. This past week we've had the great oppportunty to literally watch how repentacne changes people. I mention a family last week who I said I had a lot of hope for - well, they have a lot of hope too. They are desperate for a way to move on in life and to change and become new people. Jesus, the father, has had a lot of stuggles in life and he has particularly struggled wtih dru...
